Accessibility Policy
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to ensure compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), and confirm R. Denninger Limited’s (“the Company”) commitment to meeting the accessibility needs of persons with disabilities.
Statement of Commitment
The Company is committed to treating all individuals with dignity, independence, integration, and equal opportunity. The Company is dedicated to meeting the accessibility needs of persons with disabilities in a timely manner and in compliance with the AODA and the Ontario Human Rights Code.
The Company is committed to identifying, removing, and preventing barriers to accessibility across the organization, including within employment practices, customer service, information and communications, and the physical environment. To achieve this goal, the Company will integrate work practices, as well as develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures that support accessibility, provide appropriate training to its Associates, and regularly review its practices to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and alignment with its organizational values.
The Company recognizes that accessibility is an ongoing responsibility and remains committed to fostering an inclusive environment for its Associates, customers, and the broader community.
Accessibility Standards
The Company acknowledges that current and future accessibility standards apply to it under the AODA. The standards established under the AODA set out requirements across five key areas: information and communications, employment, transportation, the design of public spaces, and customer service.
To assist in the identification, prevention and removal of barriers for people with disabilities in these key areas, the Company has prepared a Multi-year Accessibility Plan. This plan will outline progress achieved, areas requiring improvement (if applicable), and ongoing initiatives to support accessible participation for persons with disabilities across the organization.
The Multi-year Accessibility Plan will be reviewed at least every five (5) years, or earlier as required by law.
Communication
General Communication
The Company is committed to ensuring accessibility of information and communication by providing or arranging for accessible formats and communication supports, on request.
Current accessibility initiatives will be communicated through the Company's Multi-year Accessibility Plan. The Accessibility Policy and Multi-year Accessibility Plan will be published on the Company website.
Accessible Emergency Information
General emergency procedures and public emergency safety information prepared by the Company and made available to the public will be provided in accessible formats or with appropriate communication support, upon request, as soon as practical.
Training
The Company will ensure that all members employed by the Company receive training on the accessibility standards set out under AODA and applicable aspects of the Ontario Human Rights Code. This includes;
all persons who are an employee of, or a volunteer with, the organization;
all persons who participate in developing the organization’s policies; and
all other persons who provide goods, services or facilities on behalf of the organization.
All training will be appropriate to the duties of the person undergoing training. Training will include the following topics:
The purpose of the AODA, 2005 and specific requirements related to the Associates position;
How to interact and communicate with people with various types of disabilities;
How to interact with people with disabilities who require an assistive device, a service animal or a support person; and
What to do if a person with a disability is having difficulty in accessing our organization’s goods, services or facilities.
All training will be provided before or as soon as possible after the person commences their job duties or if there is a change to the Company's accessibility policies.
Assistive Devices, Support Persons and Service Animals
Assistive Devices
People with disabilities may use their personal assistive devices when accessing the Company’s goods, services or facilities.
In cases where the assistive device presents a significant and unavoidable health or safety concern or may not be permitted for other legal reasons, other measures will be used to ensure the person with a disability has equal access to the Company's goods, services or facilities.
Support Persons
Support persons will be allowed equal access to the Company’s goods and services. If a fee is normally charged to a person with a disability for accessing a good, service or facility, this fee will be waived for the support person.
Service Animals
Service Animals are permitted on all parts of our premises that are open to the public, except in those areas in which the animal is excluded by law.
In the event that a service animal is not easily identifiable (ex. by harness or observable performance), the Company reserves the right to request documentation from a regulated health professional that confirms that the person needs the service animal for reasons relating to their disability.
A regulated health professional is defined as a member of one of the following colleges:
College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario
College of Chiropractors of Ontario
College of Nurses of Ontario
College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
College of Optometrists of Ontario
College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
College of Psychologists of Ontario
College of Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Mental Health Therapists of Ontario
If a service animal is prohibited from an area by law, the Company will clearly identify the reason for the exclusion, and discuss alternative accommodation for the affected person.
Notice of Temporary Disruption
In the event of a planned or unexpected disruption to services or facilities for persons with disabilities, the Company will ensure such disruption is promptly communicated. This clearly posted notice will include information about the reason for the disruption, its anticipated length of time, and a description of alternative facilities or services, if available.
Feedback
The Company welcomes feedback on how our services are provided. All feedback will be reviewed by a member of our HR department and assessed on a case-by-case basis.
